Berry Triumphs in Inaugural Game

Berry dominated from start to finish to win in their inaugural game held at Ford Field, against Millsaps College.  Berry kept a clean sheet as they won by a final score of 19-0.  In the first game in Berry men's lacrosse history the Vikings scored early and often in front of a packed house of well over 300 spectators.  The Vikings opened up by scoring 6 goals in the first quarter and followed that up with 7 more goals to close out the first half.  In the second half Berry used a ball control offense to hold possession, while adding 6 more goals to the total. Berry controlled play by winning 17-23 face-offs, and having over a 2:1 advantage in ground balls (Berry 45, Millsaps 21).

Scoring opened up early for the Vikings as Michael Emanuelo scored just 1:51 into the game from an assist from Cal Supik.  Supik had a hand in the games first 6 scores with 1 Goal and 5 Assists.  Supik also lead all scores with a total of 13 points (6G, 7A).  Nat Morey also had a strong performance by adding 9 points (5G, 4A).  The scoring was a complete team effort as the Vikings assisted on 16 of their 19 goals  While Jordan Boreman gets credit for the shut out (3 saves), he was helped by a strong defensive performance by the men in front of him.  Lead by Cole McMeen and Tate Kilpatrick the Vikings defense only allowed 7 shots all game.  Andy Kurila did an excellent job helping to control play by winning 14-20 face-offs.

The Berry scoring was also added by the following performances: Michael Emanuelo (3G, 1A), Bryan Byers (2G, 1A), CJ McRae (2G, 1A), Andy Kurila (1G), Marshall Henderson (1A), and Wes Goldsberry (1A).

One of the highlights of the afternoon was the cookout put on by the parents after the game.  The parents feed almost 100 people with smoked pork, chicken wings, brats, and burgers.  Beyond the exceptionally cooked meat there were lots of tasty side dishes and desserts to go around.  The players certainly earned the meal and we look forward to more great cookouts.

The Vikings return to action next Sunday, March 5th, at Guilford College in Greensboro, NC.  The opening face-off will be at 12PM.  Come out and support your Vikings.
